AW25 - LOOK 13 The Spiral Handmade in Toronto, using locally sourced materials
I am sure we are all familiar with the emotional spiral.
It is something I experience often. I spend most of my days at home alone overthinking… I have learned that it is a trauma response. I would rather spend time overthinking things in my head, than do them. Hoping that it’ll save me any potential disappointment.
I wanted to create a dress that embodies that. That shows you how, for me. Fashion is a way of life. I wake up, I’m thinking about it. Right before bed, I’m thinking about it.
Last year, I played around with the idea of tension. Using safety pins as a featured notion throughout the collection. Here it is in its evolved form.
It’s the idea of being held on by a thread, how pin by pin I am putting my life together.
Made in a gorgeous black satin, I wanted to give you the illusion that it was a seemingly simple dress on top, and then have it elegantly spiral to the ground. Using grommets and safety pins each individually hand placed. Its the perfect mix of elegance, craftsmanship, and a literal representation of my mental health.
