Someone once told me that I wear my heart on my sleeve… That stuck with me. When they told me that, I was very disconnected from my emotions. I didn’t understand what that meant. Now, I feel as though that is the only way I know how to live. For so much of my life, I felt like a robot. A body, here to participate in this capitalist society. You know; work a 9-5, go home, eat, stare at a screen for a couple hours, and then sleep. This extended into my personal life. I always felt like I had to be a shell, what people wanted me to be. For a long time, I thought that was who I was meant to be… that’s a completely different person than I am today.
This look is symbolic of me tearing away at my trauma. The text painted on the front talks about how being raised by immigrant parents made me believe that criticism and love were the same thing. Addressing the experiences and people in my life that have ultimately made me who I am today. It represents tearing away the old and replacing it with a new cuntier version of myself.
